PIER 62 SKATEPARK

For the end of my photo immersion week (WHOOO!!), I decided to look into something I knew absolutely nothing about. Skateboarding.

It’s a culture that has always been fascinating to me (the street wear, the tricks, the injuries, oh, the injuries) and I thought it would be a nice challenge trying to capture fast-paced motion while (trying) to shoot manually.

But when I got to Pier 62 Skatepark in Chelsea Piers, Manhattan, I was smitten by the texture of the place and ended up trying to go more for static shots that displayed the feel of the joint.

The first guy I spoke to assured me it was a very chill atmosphere, and chill it was. Perhaps one of my most pleasant NYC photographing excursions to date. No weird looks, (perhaps some bemusement) and only encouragement from skateboarders.
